BTG Pactual acquired control of the Brazilian startup Resale, which maintains a platform for the sale of real estate retaken in guarantees of real estate loans.

In the transaction, the investment bank assumed 65% of the startup capital, while the entrepreneurial partners, Marcelo Prata and Paulo Nascimento, maintained the remaining 35%.

The acquisition of BTG was achieved through a joint venture between its Special Situations and real estate investments divisions.

The value of the operation has not been revealed. The business was authorized by the Central bank in May.

About 80% of the amount disbursed in the acquisition will be invested in technology, expanding the operational capacity of Resale. In this way, the startup expects to enlarge from 2000 to 10000 the volume of real estate marketed through the platform, up to 2021.

The financial institution bets on the startup's ability to bring to its platform the stock of real estate retaken from banks throughout Brazil.

With this strategy, BTG Pactual hopes to capture synergy between the operations of Resale and Enforce, the recovery arm of overdue and delinquent loans of the bank, which also acts in the pricing of real estate and in the management of portfolios of stressed assets.

Acquired by BTG Pactual in 2016, Enforce already has a portfolio exceeding R $35 billion under management.

"We must create new mechanisms to help banks reduce inventories, as well as ensure more liquidity to the market, allow borrowers to honor payments of benefits and mitigate the losses of all parties involved," he says, by way of note, the Co-founder of Resale Marcelo Prata.
